I wish more people were telling the truth. Many are afraid to do it and it`s actually understandable. One of my clients had such problem as she thought that if she tells the truth she will cause more trouble than if she doesn`t. She was convinced and even told what exactly will happen how the people and the world will react if she did it. My question was: 'How do you know what will happen? If people were thinking 'what if...' every time they were doing something, the humans would still live in caves.' I am not saying one should be irresponsible but if we are afraid from the truth where is this universe going? Truth is like love, air, light, we are not supposed to give up on it, it`s a part of us. And yes, sometimes it is hard and many people may suffer because of telling the truth. But in time things change and they understand they did the right thing.
As I said in my previous post, it is very important to ask the right questions. Here the right question is not if one should say the truth (of course you should!) but how to do it in order to be heard. First, when you are talking about something and want to be persuasive, you have to make sure the other person understands you are really, really serious. That`s why it is good to talk to them about the situation by requesting a few minutes of their time to sit down and talk. You can`t have a positive result if you are trying to convince your mother on an issue as she is cooking for 67 relatives who will come at a family dinner. You can`t convince your brother about something if he is watching his favorite game on TV. Just make the time and space and make sure the other person understands it is very important.
The second important thing is to put your thoughts in order. When you are worried how people will perceive what you are saying, you have to make sure 1) you will give enough information for them to understand what happened and why they need to know these facts; what do you want them to do - to support you, to act on something, etc. 2) summarize the most important information and present it. You don`t have to start with the World War I to explain why you have certain feelings, emotions and concerns, you are a human being, you have the right to have feelings. Good luck!
